Optum Rehab for Women
Hammocks on the Edisto is among the women’s Optum rehab centers in South Carolina — call us to verify your out-of-network benefits and start the admissions process today.
Optum Drug & Alcohol Rehab for Women in South Carolina
Hammocks Recovery is one of the rehab centers that accept Optum insurance. While we are currently an out-of-network provider for Optum, many Optum plans include out-of-network benefits that can meaningfully offset the cost of addiction treatment.
Optum is the behavioral health and pharmacy benefits division of UnitedHealth Group — one of the largest health insurers in the country. If your health insurance plan is administered through UnitedHealthcare, there is a good chance Optum manages your behavioral health benefits, including coverage for substance use and mental health treatment.
If you’re looking for Optum drug rehabs in South Carolina, Hammocks on the Edisto is located in Jacksonboro — a short drive from Charleston. Our women’s addiction treatment programs are built around the specific needs of women in recovery.
Our admissions team can verify your Optum benefits at no cost to you. Reach out today to get started.
Women's Addiction Treatment Programs
Women's-Only Rehabs That Take Optum
Not all rehabs that take Optum offer gender-specific programming. At Hammocks on the Edisto, our entire program is designed exclusively for women and that distinction matters.
Women experience addiction differently than men. Biologically, women tend to progress from first use to dependence more quickly — a phenomenon sometimes called “telescoping.” Socially and psychologically, women in addiction are more likely to have a history of trauma, including domestic abuse and sexual assault, and are more likely to present with co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
A women’s-only environment addresses these realities directly:
- Trauma can be addressed more openly in a same-gender setting. Women who have experienced abuse often feel safer sharing in a space without men present, which can accelerate healing.
- Treatment plans are built around women’s biology, psychology, and lived experiences — not adapted from programs originally designed for men.
- The therapeutic community itself becomes a source of strength. Recovering alongside other women creates bonds of shared understanding that are uniquely powerful.
- Our clinical team is experienced in women’s health, trauma-informed care, and the intersections of addiction, mental health, and identity that shape women’s recovery journeys.
At Hammocks on the Edisto, women don’t receive generic addiction treatment. They receive care designed for them, by a team who understands them.
Why Choose Hammocks for Treatment?
Our rehab center offers a variety of individualized programs, including:
- Care is coordinated through the Real Change Program from pre-admission through discharge, with customized addiction treatment services tailored to your progress.
- Evidence-based therapies, exercise and holistic therapies are integrated throughout because research shows their positive effect on both physical and mental health.
- Comprehensive life skills training — including family programs, educational groups, and on- and off-site 12-step meetings — helps clients transition back to everyday life prepared and supported.
What Does Optum Cover for Addiction Treatment?
One of the most common questions we hear from women exploring treatment is whether their insurance will cover it. For those with Optum-managed benefits, the answer is often yes — at least in part — even at out-of-network optum rehab centers like Hammocks.
Optum administers behavioral health benefits for a wide range of employer-sponsored plans, individual plans, and Medicare/Medicaid managed care programs. Coverage varies by plan, but Optum-managed policies typically include benefits for:
- Inpatient Residential Treatment: Coverage for stays at optum rehab centers, subject to medical necessity criteria and pre-authorization requirements.
- Individual and Group Therapy: Coverage for licensed counseling and psychotherapy, including trauma-focused modalities such as EMDR and CBT.
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): Coverage for FDA-approved medications used in the treatment of opioid and alcohol use disorders.
- Detox Services: Coverage for medically supervised withdrawal management, which is often a first step before entering residential rehab.
- Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment: Coverage for mental health conditions that co-occur alongside substance use, often referred to as dual diagnosis care.
Because Optum manages behavioral health separately from medical benefits, it’s especially important to verify both your behavioral health deductible and your out-of-network benefits before beginning treatment. Our admissions team handles this process routinely and can walk you through everything before you commit.
Addiction & Mental Health
Does Optum Cover Mental Health Treatment?
Optum’s specialty is behavioral health — it exists specifically to manage mental health and substance use disorder benefits for millions of Americans. This makes Optum one of the more well-resourced behavioral health administrators when it comes to coverage for rehab and mental health care.
Under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), Optum is required to cover mental health and substance use disorder treatment at a level comparable to physical health benefits. This means treatment for conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder — which commonly co-occur with addiction — should be covered at parity with other medical care.
At Hammocks on the Edisto, we treat the whole person. Our dual diagnosis programs address both addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously, which research consistently shows leads to better long-term outcomes.
OON Benefits
Understanding Optum Out-of-Network Benefits
Being out-of-network doesn’t mean treatment is out of reach. Here’s how Optum’s out-of-network benefits typically work:
- PPO Plans: The most flexible plan type. If you have an Optum-managed PPO, you likely have out-of-network benefits. You’ll typically pay a higher coinsurance rate after meeting your out-of-network deductible, but a significant portion of treatment costs may still be covered.
- EPO Plans: EPO plans generally limit coverage to in-network providers, with the exception of emergencies. If you have an EPO, contact Optum directly to understand your options before assuming you have no coverage.
- HMO Plans: HMO plans usually require in-network providers. However, exceptions can sometimes be made for specialized services not available in-network in your area.
- Single Case Agreements (SCAs): In some cases, our admissions team can negotiate a single case agreement with Optum directly, allowing Hammocks to be reimbursed at in-network rates for your stay. This is worth exploring before ruling out treatment based on cost concerns.
- Out-of-Network Deductibles: Many plans have a separate, higher deductible for out-of-network care. Once met, your plan’s out-of-network coinsurance kicks in. We’ll help you understand where you stand before admission.
The most reliable way to know what you’ll owe is to let us verify your benefits. Our team does this every day and can give you a clear picture — usually within 24 hours.

This facility is like no other. Every Staff member was knowledgeable and friendly. Being a small group (15 max), I formed a bond with the other residents like I had never experienced before. This place saved my life.

Hammocks is truly a special place. Everything from the staff, therapists, activities, food, location/view/house, resources etc. were top-notch. I had an incredible experience and highly recommend this spot. 10/10.

The most incredible treatment facility ever! They offer a holistic approach centered in therapy, science, and female empowerment. Eric, Sarah, Jonas, Katie, and all of the other staff offer a level of compassion that I’ve never seen before in any treatment facility. And that says a lot coming from a child of two addicts who have been in and out of facilities my entire life. They are always available and respond quickly to any questions or discussions you may bring up. The family groups were amazing and I miss them every week. They truly care and believe that recovery is possible for all!
Rhapsody C.
My wife spent a month at the Hammocks and I have nothing but incredible things to say about the facility. The help and therapy she received has truly been life changing for our family. From the day I called to discuss admission, Jonas, the director, made himself immediately available to any questions or concerns I had. Throughout her stay, I participated in multiple family sessions a week with Sarah or Eric who were both excellent. They were kind and accepting, but also thought-provoking and challenging. Not to mention, the whole facility is absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend the Hammocks to any family in need of a recovery center.

This facility has absolutely saved my life. It is secluded, peaceful, beautiful, and a lovely gone environment that makes external and internal healing much easier to tackle. Being away from family and doing the intense work needed for recovery is hard enough in any environment but the Hammocks makes you feel like you are nothing shy of family. You are treated with respect and kindness, and your needs are listened to and accommodated and the staff is so loving and supportive.

As a therapist at Hammocks on the Edisto, I am so proud to be a part of this great team of caring professionals. Being directly involved in the process of change for our clients is a honor. The facility is beautiful and inviting and provides a healthy environment for our residents to thrive. The programming is like nothing I’ve been part of before. From our comprehensive and diverse group sessions, the wellness and yoga component, our individual therapy, medical and nursing care, nutrition and on site chef, and a great team of recovery associates, we collectively provide a great recovery experience.

Hammocks on the Edisto is a dream come true in so many ways. This is a unique place where women can progress on their journey to recovery surrounded by the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry and supported by a team of compassionate expert providers. Offerings beyond talk therapy include yoga, cooking demonstrations, adventures to local parks and beaches, and wellness coaching. The facility is never over crowded and each woman gets lots of personalized care. The healing potential is felt as soon as you drive down the long private driveway to the house. Highly recommend.
