Women's Substance Abuse Treatment Program

Like many other diseases, an addiction to drugs or alcohol can affect anyone at any time. The women’s substance abuse treatment programs at Hammocks on the Edisto are committed to assisting each resident in our care through their recovery program. We provide each person in our care the support, hope, and care they require to enter into long-term recovery. Please contact Hammocks on the Edisto today at 833.793.0191 for more information about our substance abuse treatment programs, including drug rehabalcohol rehab, and mental health treatment.

The Need for Women’s Substance Abuse Treatment on the East Coast

Substance use is a chronic disease, which means that like diabetes or asthma, it is important to seek professional inpatient addiction treatment. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the severity of their use. Signs that may indicate that someone is battling an addiction to drugs or alcohol and need a women’s substance abuse treatment program include:

  • They’re unable to perform their duties at home or work because of their drug or alcohol use.
  • They’ve experienced cravings for drugs or alcohol when they aren’t using them.
  • They have damaged the relationships between their loved ones or friends due to their substance use.
  • They drink or use drugs excessively in short periods of time.
  • They’ve experienced adverse physical or mental health conditions because of their drug or alcohol use, but they’ve continued to use them anyway.
  • They’ve developed a tolerance for drugs or alcohol, which means their need to use more of it to get the same effect.
  • They have withdrawal symptoms when they don’t use substances.
  • They’re unable to cut down or quit using drugs or alcohol alone.

If a woman is experiencing any of these symptoms, further evaluation by a healthcare professional may be recommended. At Hammocks on the Edisto, we’re committed to providing long-term support for women who are struggling with substance use.

At Hammocks on the Edisto, the first step in the journey to substance abuse recovery is speaking to an admissions specialist, who will guide the prospective resident through the admissions process. • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive processing therapy for trauma (CPT)
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family counseling

We’ve designed our women’s substance abuse treatment program to address the needs of the women in our care. We specialize in providing a trauma-informed approach for women who’ve struggled with addiction due to a traumatic experience in their past. What Challenges Do Women Face in Recovery?

Substance abuse can be difficult for anyone to overcome. Women face numerous challenges, from denial and shame surrounding their addiction to not receiving the exact treatment for their unique needs. These can all deter a woman’s ability to overcome addiction successfully. This is why a women’s substance abuse program can provide specialized care.

Here are some common challenges women face when it comes to their addiction recovery journey.

Below are some of the top benefits of our women’s substance abuse treatment programs:

Gender-Specific Needs

The Specific Needs of Women

Connecting and feeling supported by a community of peers who may be facing similar struggles as you is important when it comes to recovery. Therefore, women are better able to connect and likely resonate inside a women’s substance abuse treatment center as they will be surrounded by and be able to share similar stories of recovery with other women.

Effective Approaches to Substance Abuse Treatment for Women

Relationships are critical in maintaining long-term sobriety for a woman overcoming addiction. Additionally, addressing a woman’s past trauma and whether the woman is a mother or pregnant (and how her substance abuse is/can harm her child) is essential to effectively address during addiction treatment for women.

While every addiction recovery journey is different, women respond effectively to the substance abuse treatment approaches below.

  • Family Counseling: Helps a woman rebuild relationships with loved ones that may have been fractured because of her addiction.
  • Individual Therapy: Receive professional support to address how her substance abuse is impacting her life, whether she is a mother, daughter, wanting or expecting a child, etc.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy for Trauma: Effective treatment designed to address trauma safely rather than masking trauma with drugs and alcohol.
  • Group Therapy: Connect with women who may be in a similar situation as you to learn and lean off of peers for support.

Each of these approaches explains why seeking a women’s only substance abuse treatment on the East Coast is important for women to receive the exact care for their unique needs.

My stay here at Hammocks has been life changing. I will never forget all of the staff and women here who have made my journey successful. Without all of you I would still be broken. Love to all.

My time at the Hammocks was an absolute blessing and saved my life. This magical place on the water is beautiful, safe, and peaceful. I have made lifelong connections and relationships with all of the strong women I have met here. From the counselors and therapists, to the chef and housekeeping, Hammocks allowed me to really get vulnerable while making me feel right at home. I will always remember the amazing and calming energy, from the moment I walked through the door and will always utilize the life changing tools that were given to me during my stay. Hammocks has changed my outlook on life and has me excited to see what the future holds for my recovery!

I have been to other IP treatment facilities and the Hammocks is by far the best! The therapists are top notch and provide intensive treatment involving all aspects of mental health and addiction. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the women have become like family.

Michele C.

Lauren M.

I arrived to the Hammocks in a horrible depressive episode, bad relapse, and incredibly hopeless and suicidal. This place has given me space ot learn, grow, and be my authentic self. Thanks to the help of the staff, therapists, and fellow residents, I am leaving The Hammocks with a better relationship to myself, a desire to stay sober, and feeling hopeful for the first time in years. Thank you!

Clover D.

My friend told me about the Hammocks when i was unsure if inpatient treatment was fdor me. The thirty day stay was worth every minute! There was not one moment that i did not learn from during my HOTE journey and i am leaving here as a much stronger and healthier version of myself.

Morgan C.

I entered the big yellow door at the Hammocks on the Edisto not knowing what to expect and it has turned out to be a life changing experience. This place is special and unique, someplace i will never forget.

Adriana F.

Prior to comin got the Hammocks I was heavily using alcohol and THC. I was at the edge of death by my own hands. Since comin got the Hammocks I want to live. My individual mental health and substance abuse therapy sessions were aligned and tailored to my specific needs. The psyc ed classes that were most meaningful to me were Adverse Childhood Patterns, Empathy Vs. Sympathy, Adult Attachment Patterns, Mindfulness, Love Languages, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The attended AA meetings offered insight to the 12 recovery steps endorsed by Alcoholics anonymous. When i first came to The Hammocks I was very weak and walked with little stability. Through yoga, riki, pound, and my favorite, watering and taking care of the gardens, I have regained my strength. I want alcohol and drugs to no longer be a part of my future, living a rich and fulfilling life.

Carol J. V.

My experience at Hammocks on the Edisto far exceeded my expectations. I came in doubting I coils change the negative patterns and behaviors that i’ve battled for years. At the end of my 30 day program I have hope and a solid plan of action. The Hammocks is a safe space for women to build connection and a sense of community. The beautiful setting, kind staff, skilled clinicians and program components develop self-awareness, the ability to identify and process trauma and gain knowledge to navigate recovery with confidence. It’s a very special place.

Catherine H.

The Hammocks is a wonderful and life changing place. Everyone working here is warm, welcoming, and helpful. The Clinical staff is truly exceptional. I am going home a mentally healthy person looking forward to a happy & meaningful life.

Alli O.

This facility is like no other. Every Staff member was knowledgeable and friendly. Being a small group (15 max), I formed a bond with the other residents like I had never experienced before. This place saved my life.

Jill J.

Hammocks is truly a special place. Everything from the staff, therapists, activities, food, location/view/house, resources etc. were top-notch. I had an incredible experience and highly recommend this spot. 10/10.

Darcy W.

The most incredible treatment facility ever! They offer a holistic approach centered in therapy, science, and female empowerment. Eric, Sarah, Jonas, Katie, and all of the other staff offer a level of compassion that I’ve never seen before in any treatment facility. And that says a lot coming from a child of two addicts who have been in and out of facilities my entire life. They are always available and respond quickly to any questions or discussions you may bring up. The family groups were amazing and I miss them every week. They truly care and believe that recovery is possible for all!

Rhapsody C.

My wife spent a month at the Hammocks and I have nothing but incredible things to say about the facility. The help and therapy she received has truly been life changing for our family. From the day I called to discuss admission, Jonas, the director, made himself immediately available to any questions or concerns I had. Throughout her stay, I participated in multiple family sessions a week with Sarah or Eric who were both excellent. They were kind and accepting, but also thought-provoking and challenging. Not to mention, the whole facility is absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend the Hammocks to any family in need of a recovery center.

Erica U.

This facility has absolutely saved my life. It is secluded, peaceful, beautiful, and a lovely gone environment that makes external and internal healing much easier to tackle. Being away from family and doing the intense work needed for recovery is hard enough in any environment but the Hammocks makes you feel like you are nothing shy of family. You are treated with respect and kindness, and your needs are listened to and accommodated and the staff is so loving and supportive.

Krista B.

As a therapist at Hammocks on the Edisto, I am so proud to be a part of this great team of caring professionals. Being directly involved in the process of change for our clients is a honor. The facility is beautiful and inviting and provides a healthy environment for our residents to thrive. The programming is like nothing I’ve been part of before. From our comprehensive and diverse group sessions, the wellness and yoga component, our individual therapy, medical and nursing care, nutrition and on site chef, and a great team of recovery associates, we collectively provide a great recovery experience.

Eric H.

Hammocks on the Edisto is a dream come true in so many ways. This is a unique place where women can progress on their journey to recovery surrounded by the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry and supported by a team of compassionate expert providers. Offerings beyond talk therapy include yoga, cooking demonstrations, adventures to local parks and beaches, and wellness coaching. The facility is never over crowded and each woman gets lots of personalized care. The healing potential is felt as soon as you drive down the long private driveway to the house. Highly recommend.

Kate A.

I was able to rediscover myself and my inner light. It was diminished for too many years and Hammocks has helped me health from the inside out. I am prepared for my future and content with my recovery and life.
