A Day in the Life at Hammocks on the Edisto

Learn more about what to expect during your stay at Hammocks.

Admissions and Intake Process

Every resident embarks on their journey at Hammocks through a comprehensive intake process, meticulously organized and carried out by our dedicated Nursing and Admissions team. This initial phase is designed to ensure that all new residents receive personalized attention tailored to their unique needs.

During the intake, our skilled staff conducts a thorough assessment that encompasses medical history, current health status, and personal preferences. This information allows us to create a customized care plan that aligns with each resident’s individual circumstances and aspirations.

We prioritize open communication and compassion, ensuring that every resident feels comfortable and supported as they transition into our community. Our aim is to provide a welcoming environment where each person can thrive from day one.

Morning Routines at Hammocks

Mornings at Hammocks on the Edisto are a tranquil escape, perfect for nurturing a rejuvenating morning routine that plays a vital role in the recovery journey. Nestled along the serene banks of the Edisto River, this picturesque location invites you to embrace moments of quiet solitude. Picture yourself sipping a warm cup of coffee as the early morning mist gently lifts off the water’s surface, revealing the lush greenery that surrounds you.

With the soothing sounds of nature as your backdrop, you can engage in peaceful self-reflection or enjoy a meditative walk along the riverbank, where the soft rustle of leaves and the calls of local wildlife inspire mindfulness. Whether you choose to practice yoga on the river’s edge or simply bask in the beauty of your surroundings, Hammocks provides a restorative space to recharge and connect with both yourself and the natural world.

How Hammocks Can Help

Mind and Body Healing

Engaging in physical movement is more than just exercise; it offers a valuable opportunity to rejuvenate and reconnect with our physical selves. When we take that deliberate moment to stretch, walk, or partake in any form of activity, we not only invigorate our muscles but also foster a deeper awareness of our bodies and their needs.

Recovery transcends mere physical healing—it involves cultivating a fresh perspective on life and embracing a healthier lifestyle. Regardless of your fitness level, incorporating activity into your daily routine can significantly aid in the healing process. Whether it’s a gentle walk in nature, a brisk jog, or even a dance class, getting active serves as a vital catalyst for making positive choices. As we move our bodies, we often find ourselves more inspired to make nutritious dietary decisions, maintain mental clarity, and nurture emotional well-being. This holistic approach lays the groundwork for a vibrant and health-filled future.

“I believe in the strength of faith, hope and love as guiding influences for recovery. I am honored to be part of a great team serving those pursuing recovery, and am eager to assist our residents on their journey through the treatment process and subsequent healing.”

Clinical Programming

Throughout the day, a significant portion of our time is dedicated to engaging in both group and individual clinical programming sessions. Our clinical methodologies are thoughtfully designed to empower residents, fostering the development of essential life skills while promoting self-awareness and providing a supportive environment.

Residents actively participate in various types of groups, which include Skills-Based Groups, where they learn practical techniques to enhance their daily functioning and emotional regulation. In Process Groups, members explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe space, allowing for deeper interpersonal connections and understanding of personal experiences. Educational Groups provide valuable information on mental health topics, equipping individuals with knowledge to aid their recovery journey.

Additionally, each resident receives individualized attention through one-on-one sessions and comprehensive assessments with Primary Therapists, ensuring that their unique needs and goals are addressed. This holistic approach aims to help residents feel acknowledged, validated, and accepted as they navigate their personal journeys toward growth and healing.

Building A More Fulfilling Life

Experiential Therapy

In instances where verbal communication falls short, engaging in experiential therapy opens avenues for understanding behaviors and experiences that may not surface in a conventional therapy setting. This innovative approach places emphasis on the value of direct experiences as a means to foster insight and healing.

At our facility, residents actively engage in group experiential therapy sessions, which can take place either offsite in carefully selected environments or within the serene surroundings of our Hammocks campus. These sessions are designed to encourage participants to immerse themselves fully in activities that stimulate emotional and psychological exploration, allowing for real-time processing of feelings and interactions. Through hands-on involvement, residents can build connections, reflect on their experiences, and gain deeper insights into their personal journeys towards recovery.

A Place for Healing

Hammocks Evenings

During our Hammocks Evenings, residents come together to share delicious, home-cooked meals that foster a sense of community and connection. These gatherings are not only about enjoying food but also about creating an atmosphere of support and understanding. Following dinner, participants engage in peer-driven recovery meetings, where they exchange insights and experiences related to their journeys.

This collaborative environment allows individuals to gain valuable knowledge and practical tools for recovery, providing them with a deeper understanding of what life in recovery can look like outside the program’s walls. Together, they build a strong foundation for growth, resilience, and hope.

This facility is like no other. Every Staff member was knowledgeable and friendly. Being a small group (15 max), I formed a bond with the other residents like I had never experienced before. This place saved my life.

Hammocks is truly a special place. Everything from the staff, therapists, activities, food, location/view/house, resources etc. were top-notch. I had an incredible experience and highly recommend this spot. 10/10.

The most incredible treatment facility ever! They offer a holistic approach centered in therapy, science, and female empowerment. Eric, Sarah, Jonas, Katie, and all of the other staff offer a level of compassion that I’ve never seen before in any treatment facility. And that says a lot coming from a child of two addicts who have been in and out of facilities my entire life. They are always available and respond quickly to any questions or discussions you may bring up. The family groups were amazing and I miss them every week. They truly care and believe that recovery is possible for all!

Rhapsody C.

My wife spent a month at the Hammocks and I have nothing but incredible things to say about the facility. The help and therapy she received has truly been life changing for our family. From the day I called to discuss admission, Jonas, the director, made himself immediately available to any questions or concerns I had. Throughout her stay, I participated in multiple family sessions a week with Sarah or Eric who were both excellent. They were kind and accepting, but also thought-provoking and challenging. Not to mention, the whole facility is absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend the Hammocks to any family in need of a recovery center.

This facility has absolutely saved my life. It is secluded, peaceful, beautiful, and a lovely gone environment that makes external and internal healing much easier to tackle. Being away from family and doing the intense work needed for recovery is hard enough in any environment but the Hammocks makes you feel like you are nothing shy of family. You are treated with respect and kindness, and your needs are listened to and accommodated and the staff is so loving and supportive.

As a therapist at Hammocks on the Edisto, I am so proud to be a part of this great team of caring professionals. Being directly involved in the process of change for our clients is a honor. The facility is beautiful and inviting and provides a healthy environment for our residents to thrive. The programming is like nothing I’ve been part of before. From our comprehensive and diverse group sessions, the wellness and yoga component, our individual therapy, medical and nursing care, nutrition and on site chef, and a great team of recovery associates, we collectively provide a great recovery experience.

Hammocks on the Edisto is a dream come true in so many ways. This is a unique place where women can progress on their journey to recovery surrounded by the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry and supported by a team of compassionate expert providers. Offerings beyond talk therapy include yoga, cooking demonstrations, adventures to local parks and beaches, and wellness coaching. The facility is never over crowded and each woman gets lots of personalized care. The healing potential is felt as soon as you drive down the long private driveway to the house. Highly recommend.

My stay here at Hammocks has been life changing. I will never forget all of the staff and women here who have made my journey successful. Without all of you I would still be broken. Love to all.

My time at the Hammocks was an absolute blessing and saved my life. This magical place on the water is beautiful, safe, and peaceful. I have made lifelong connections and relationships with all of the strong women I have met here. From the counselors and therapists, to the chef and housekeeping, Hammocks allowed me to really get vulnerable while making me feel right at home. I will always remember the amazing and calming energy, from the moment I walked through the door and will always utilize the life changing tools that were given to me during my stay. Hammocks has changed my outlook on life and has me excited to see what the future holds for my recovery!

I have been to other IP treatment facilities and the Hammocks is by far the best! The therapists are top notch and provide intensive treatment involving all aspects of mental health and addiction. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the women have become like family.

Caroline W.

The Hammocks not only saved my life, but taught me a new way to live. Emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I owe it all to the Hammocks facility and staff. I would recommend anyone to this special place

Lauren M.

I arrived to the Hammocks in a horrible depressive episode, bad relapse, and incredibly hopeless and suicidal. This place has given me space ot learn, grow, and be my authentic self. Thanks to the help of the staff, therapists, and fellow residents, I am leaving The Hammocks with a better relationship to myself, a desire to stay sober, and feeling hopeful for the first time in years. Thank you!

Clover D.

My friend told me about the Hammocks when i was unsure if inpatient treatment was fdor me. The thirty day stay was worth every minute! There was not one moment that i did not learn from during my HOTE journey and i am leaving here as a much stronger and healthier version of myself.

Morgan C.

I entered the big yellow door at the Hammocks on the Edisto not knowing what to expect and it has turned out to be a life changing experience. This place is special and unique, someplace i will never forget.

Adriana F.

Prior to comin got the Hammocks I was heavily using alcohol and THC. I was at the edge of death by my own hands. Since comin got the Hammocks I want to live. My individual mental health and substance abuse therapy sessions were aligned and tailored to my specific needs. The psyc ed classes that were most meaningful to me were Adverse Childhood Patterns, Empathy Vs. Sympathy, Adult Attachment Patterns, Mindfulness, Love Languages, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The attended AA meetings offered insight to the 12 recovery steps endorsed by Alcoholics anonymous. When i first came to The Hammocks I was very weak and walked with little stability. Through yoga, riki, pound, and my favorite, watering and taking care of the gardens, I have regained my strength. I want alcohol and drugs to no longer be a part of my future, living a rich and fulfilling life.

Carol J. V.

My experience at Hammocks on the Edisto far exceeded my expectations. I came in doubting I coils change the negative patterns and behaviors that i’ve battled for years. At the end of my 30 day program I have hope and a solid plan of action. The Hammocks is a safe space for women to build connection and a sense of community. The beautiful setting, kind staff, skilled clinicians and program components develop self-awareness, the ability to identify and process trauma and gain knowledge to navigate recovery with confidence. It’s a very special place.
