Drug Rehab for Women, Minutes From Charleston

Charleston is known for its beauty, its history, and its hospitality. It’s also a city where drinking and social pressure are woven into daily life, from rooftop bars and brunch culture to wedding weekends and oyster roasts. For women struggling with drugs or alcohol, that can make it hard to see a way out.

Hammocks on the Edisto is a women-only residential drug and alcohol rehab in Jacksonboro, about 40 minutes southwest of downtown Charleston. Our small, intentionally capped program, with no more than 15 women at a time, gives Charleston-area women a place to step away, heal at the root, and build a recovery that holds up when they come home.

The State of Substance Use in the Charleston Area

The Lowcountry has seen encouraging progress, but the crisis isn’t over. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office reported that overdose deaths fell to a five-year low in 2025, down from 254 in 2023 to 153. Even so, mixed drug toxicity, with multiple substances involved, accounted for more than half of local overdose deaths.

Statewide, Charleston County was among the three South Carolina counties with the highest number of overdose deaths in 2024, according to state public health data. And many women’s struggles never show up in these numbers at all: the woman drinking a bottle of wine every night, the mom relying on pills to get through the day, the professional quietly using stimulants to keep up.

Why Charleston Women Choose Hammocks

Staying in Charleston can mean staying close to the same social circles, bars, and stress. Hammocks is close enough for family to visit and join family sessions, but far enough that you get real distance from daily pressure.

Everything at Hammocks is built for women, from the therapies we offer to daily life on campus. Women can talk openly about trauma, relationships, motherhood, and self-worth in a setting where they feel safe.

With a maximum of 15 residents and low clinician caseloads, every woman is known personally and receives meaningful one-on-one attention.

In a city where it can feel like everyone knows everyone, a quiet, private riverside estate offers discretion that’s hard to find closer to downtown.

This facility is like no other. Every Staff member was knowledgeable and friendly. Being a small group (15 max), I formed a bond with the other residents like I had never experienced before. This place saved my life.

Jill J.

Hammocks is truly a special place. Everything from the staff, therapists, activities, food, location/view/house, resources etc. were top-notch. I had an incredible experience and highly recommend this spot. 10/10.

Darcy W.

The most incredible treatment facility ever! They offer a holistic approach centered in therapy, science, and female empowerment. Eric, Sarah, Jonas, Katie, and all of the other staff offer a level of compassion that I’ve never seen before in any treatment facility. And that says a lot coming from a child of two addicts who have been in and out of facilities my entire life. They are always available and respond quickly to any questions or discussions you may bring up. The family groups were amazing and I miss them every week. They truly care and believe that recovery is possible for all!

Rhapsody C.

My wife spent a month at the Hammocks and I have nothing but incredible things to say about the facility. The help and therapy she received has truly been life changing for our family. From the day I called to discuss admission, Jonas, the director, made himself immediately available to any questions or concerns I had. Throughout her stay, I participated in multiple family sessions a week with Sarah or Eric who were both excellent. They were kind and accepting, but also thought-provoking and challenging. Not to mention, the whole facility is absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend the Hammocks to any family in need of a recovery center.

Erica U.

This facility has absolutely saved my life. It is secluded, peaceful, beautiful, and a lovely gone environment that makes external and internal healing much easier to tackle. Being away from family and doing the intense work needed for recovery is hard enough in any environment but the Hammocks makes you feel like you are nothing shy of family. You are treated with respect and kindness, and your needs are listened to and accommodated and the staff is so loving and supportive.

Krista B.

As a therapist at Hammocks on the Edisto, I am so proud to be a part of this great team of caring professionals. Being directly involved in the process of change for our clients is a honor. The facility is beautiful and inviting and provides a healthy environment for our residents to thrive. The programming is like nothing I’ve been part of before. From our comprehensive and diverse group sessions, the wellness and yoga component, our individual therapy, medical and nursing care, nutrition and on site chef, and a great team of recovery associates, we collectively provide a great recovery experience.

Eric H.

Hammocks on the Edisto is a dream come true in so many ways. This is a unique place where women can progress on their journey to recovery surrounded by the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry and supported by a team of compassionate expert providers. Offerings beyond talk therapy include yoga, cooking demonstrations, adventures to local parks and beaches, and wellness coaching. The facility is never over crowded and each woman gets lots of personalized care. The healing potential is felt as soon as you drive down the long private driveway to the house. Highly recommend.

I was able to rediscover myself and my inner light. It was diminished for too many years and Hammocks has helped me health from the inside out. I am prepared for my future and content with my recovery and life.

My stay here at Hammocks has been life changing. I will never forget all of the staff and women here who have made my journey successful. Without all of you I would still be broken. Love to all.

Tracey

My time at the Hammocks was an absolute blessing and saved my life. This magical place on the water is beautiful, safe, and peaceful. I have made lifelong connections and relationships with all of the strong women I have met here. From the counselors and therapists, to the chef and housekeeping, Hammocks allowed me to really get vulnerable while making me feel right at home. I will always remember the amazing and calming energy, from the moment I walked through the door and will always utilize the life changing tools that were given to me during my stay. Hammocks has changed my outlook on life and has me excited to see what the future holds for my recovery!

The Hammocks not only saved my life, but taught me a new way to live. Emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I owe it all to the Hammocks facility and staff. I would recommend anyone to this special place

Lauren M.

I arrived to the Hammocks in a horrible depressive episode, bad relapse, and incredibly hopeless and suicidal. This place has given me space ot learn, grow, and be my authentic self. Thanks to the help of the staff, therapists, and fellow residents, I am leaving The Hammocks with a better relationship to myself, a desire to stay sober, and feeling hopeful for the first time in years. Thank you!

Clover D.

My friend told me about the Hammocks when i was unsure if inpatient treatment was fdor me. The thirty day stay was worth every minute! There was not one moment that i did not learn from during my HOTE journey and i am leaving here as a much stronger and healthier version of myself.

Adriana F.

“Hammocks was not my first treatment center but I'm so hopeful that it will be my last. The location is beautiful which is perfect for the mindfulness I was taught. Not only did they provide guidance through my substance abuse, the individual therapy sessions opened up & explored my mental emotions & past traumas. I finally feel free & thrilled to continue to work (one day at a time) toward long term recovery.”

Amy L.

“I came to Hammocks with Alcoholism and a strong case of PTSD. After 30 days of intensive therapy, I finally felt a genuine sense of joy in my heart for being cancer free. I accept the botched surgeries and my new front I was left with. Thank you so much to the entire staff here!”

Lori P.

“I came here in a crisis with nowhere else to go and everything was great. I was greeted by the staff immediately, went through admissions and then to my room - very comfy. The house, food & view are wonderful.”

“I didn't know what to expect for my first 30 day inpatient facility and all female. I never imagined I would receive so much support, love, and education within 30 days! It is an intense 30 days & nights, and the best therapies I have ever received; which have started my sober foundation.”

A.R.

“I came here in denial - I learned a had a problem. I have been dealing with grief for over 30 years - I am able to remember the person I grieved in a positive way through EMDR.”

D.D.
